Now is the time…

This image of John Denver really sums it up for me. If we do not act now, all that will remain is memories of our past.

John Denver, contemplating the sunset… and, perhaps, mankind’s questionable future.

Now is the time…

What will it take to awaken the masses?
When will they take off their rose colored glasses?
There’s really no question, the data is there…
We’re all being poisoned… on land, sea and air
As we hurry and scurry about in such haste,
Our beautiful planet is being laid waste

It isn’t a mystery, how we got here
Willingly blinded by greed… or by fear
With even the wisest among us ignored
By a populace so apathetic and bored
They’re too numb to feel the joys of this world
The buzz of a bee… a flower unfurled

No longer in touch with the pulse of this Earth
Ignoring the death of what gave us birth
From mountains to oceans, forests to sand
So many asleep to the blights on the land
They don’t feel the intense heat of the sun
They’re not yet aware this world’s coming undone

Still there are some, I just have to guess
Asking themselves “how’d we get in this mess?”
While we were all busy chasing The Dream
The power elite were pursuing A Scheme
To plunder and pillage until all is lost
With nary a care regarding the cost

Now is the time… assess all you hold dear
Now is the time… stand up to the fear
Continually woven to hold us all down
Now is the time to turn this around
Make the decision to choose your own fate
Now is the time… before it’s too late

Pharmaceuticals, chemicals and GMOs
Are the tip of the iceberg bringing our woes
Dying oceans and forests, destroyed biosphere
The masses now fiddle as ruin grows near
Sadly, my friend, y’ ain’t seen nothing yet…
Witness the trails from the back of a jet

Watch them appear and spread as they grow
Into dismal gray curtains… killing us slow
Compounding the interest, destroying our health
Polluting our planet for industry’s wealth
If industrial waste’s not destructive enough
It’s synergized now… with that aerosol stuff

It’s up to us all… to step up to the plate
Stop all this madness, before it’s too late
Start with the worst and work our way back
Cut off the head of their biggest attack
Stopping the poison that snakes through our skies
Will strengthen our health… and open our eyes

Ending this global attack from above
Will slow the assault on this Earth we so love
Allowing the chance we so desperately need
To end the destruction brought on by their greed
Time has grown short and the hour is late
Now is the time to own your own fate

Now is the time… assess all you hold dear
Now is the time… stand up to the fear
Continually woven to hold us all down
Now is the time to turn this around
Make the decision to choose your own fate
Now is the time… before it’s too late

Where are we headed… the graveyard.
